Hurricane Ike: God's Blessings Abound

OK, so I haven't posted in a while.  Hurricane Ike took its toll on Houston, and just before Ike arrived, my doctor took a roto-rooter (his words) to my sinus cavities.  I am finally starting to get back to normal.

That said, I did want to post a praise regarding God's blessings before, during, and after Hurricane Ike hit.  As I said, a few days before the storm, I had sinus surgery.  Once the forecasters called for Ike to hit the Houston area, I started to get worried.  Could I manage the efforts necessary in my post-surgery condition?

Well, as usual, God is great!  I actually felt better immediately before the storm, three days after the surgery, than I do now, two weeks after surgery.  I was able to help my wife clear all of our belongings out of the back yard before the storm hit.  I had no problems due to my nose.  Praise God!

During the storm, my family and my house were spared the worst.  We came through with no family injuries.  The only damage to the house was some lost shingles.  Overall, we were very blessed.

And the weather after the storm was amazing.  A cold front came through on Sunday, and life without electricity and air conditioning was actually quite pleasant for several days.  As my Mother-in-Law said, "The hurricane took the power, but God handled the air conditioning."

But perhaps the most amazing aspect of the storm is the fact that we were able to keep a half-gallon of milk for my daughter from Thursday before the storm hit until Wednesday after the storm hit.  We had no electricity from Saturday morning to Tuesday night, and we couldn't find ice until Monday morning.  Yet the milk did not spoil, and my daughter didn't have to go without.  I cannot explain logically how this happened.  But God provided.

As most readers are aware, there are still many in Southeast Texas who are suffering due to Ike.  Homes have been lost.  Lives have been lost (although remarkably fewer that I expected).  Hundreds of thousands of homes are still without power.  Please continue to pray for all those who are still trying to get back into their lives and are in need of assistance.  But we cannot forget to praise God for all he has done to bless the area, either.
